In defense of single-tasking

I walk my dog Xena almost every day (it’s Colorado, some days it’s just not happening).  It’s generally about a mile and a half, so it takes us between 20-30 minutes.  Do you know what I do while walking the dog?

Listen to music?  Nope.

Podcast?  Nope.

Take a call?  Nope.

Enjoy the scenery and pay attention to my dog?  Yup.

I get back from the walk with a clear head.  Relaxed.  Ready for my next task.

Multi-tasking is not a badge of honor.  It’s exhausting.  Are you really getting any more stuff done when you multi-task?

Maybe what you need to get more done is to do fewer things at a time.
